March 1st was a big moment in 1892 for those of us who love nature! For it was on that day that the United States Congress voted to make Yellowstone a national park to preserve its beauty. But did you know that an artist was directly responsible for convincing Congress to make this move? And we all know how difficult of a task that can be!

How an Artist Saved Yellowstone from Destruction

Thomas Moran was a painter and explorer who first captured and illustrated the wonders of this mysterious land in Wyoming. Hardly anyone had been there and those that had certainly didn’t have smart phones to send back photos. So, Thomas Moran took it upon himself to paint the wonders that he saw. These paintings were then shown to members of congress who agreed that this beauty must be preserved.
