Over the last month, I have discovered a number of wonderful new games and worksheets to use with my students. I’d like to share about a few of the favorites that I have found and invite you to share about any new sites or activities in the comments section.
New Site:
- Jen’s Piano Studio Blog: If you like free resources from creative teachers, then you’ll want to follow this blog. Look below for some of my favorite activities I have found on the site.
New Activities:
- Giant Sight Reading Cards: I love Jen’s post about how she uses these. I don’t own any boomwhackers, so I am going to be using my small set of percussion bells (these have a piano orientation with white and black bars depicting the white and black keys of a piano). I plan to have the student start at the beginning of the notebook of cards and play with the metronome until they miss a beat or a note. The next week, their goal will be to accurately play even more of the sight reading cards.
- Scale Step Cards (scroll to the bottom): I plan to use these with my Scale Blocks, helping the students identify the tonic and the Whole and Half steps for each scale.
New Resources:
- These Scale Fingering Worksheets are great to help students remember the fingering for each scale. While I usually teach this by rote, I plan to have an index of these at the back of each student’ assignment notebook.
What have you discovered online in the last few months?

Use these scale diagrams and they have eliminated the “I fogot” syndrome! I’ve added the key signature just by hand in front of each one so they are internalizing these at the same time.
