  1. Not to detract from these fine teacher workshops but a fellow teacher friend and I have decided to set aside a couple of days this summer to view some piano pedagogy DVD’s we have and brainstorm together for the coming year. She has two small children and getting away for a workshop is not something she can do right now.

We love spending time together and encouraging each other in our studios so this will be a perfect solution for us.

Maybe there are other teachers out there who might not be able to travel but could get together with a friend and scour the internet for great resources to discuss. Like Compose, Create perhaps!

  2. This is such a great idea Shelly! Thanks for sharing it. It’s a great thought for those that can’t make it to a workshop or afford to travel. Hmmm…now you’ve got my wheels turning about who in my area I could get together and brainstorm with. I’ve been able to have several teachers at my house in the last year just for coffee and chatting and it’s been such a wonderful way to get to know my colleagues and get new ideas. Thanks so much for sharing your idea! And definitely feel free to peruse all the resource and past posts on ComposeCreate.com! 🙂

What other DVDs are you thinking of viewing together?

  3. We have a colleague in our local association, Vicki Conway, who teaches at UT Tyler and also works extensively with Sheila Page, founder and executive director of Piano Wellness. Maybe you’d like to add her seminar to your list. You can learn more about it at http://www.pianowellnessseminar.com

They have a collection of DVD’s from past seminars for purchase. I have gotten several over the years and our association has purchased some for our library. The titles I have include:
“Brain Games – developmental skills, sensory-motor integration, dual dominance”
    “How Motion Affects Sound”
    “Teaching Beginning Skills”
“Performance Anxiety/Dominance Profiles and Learning Styles”

Another video collection in our ETMTA Library is how to teach David Higginson’s “Professional Chord System”. http://www.pianostar.com/index.php

Of course, I also enjoy Dr. Mario Ajero’s videocasts on YouTube. He and his piano pedagogy students at Stephen F. Austin University post lots of informative and entertaining videos at http://www.youtube.com/user/mariocast

Finally, I may have gotten this link from you in the first place but I also enjoy videos from the University of Iowa Piano Project http://www.youtube.com/user/UIPianoPed/videos They are posting videos of thousands of standard teaching pieces. It’s nice to ‘test drive’ some unfamilar selections before I decide to include them in my curriculum.

    Thanks!!
    Shelly

  4. This is the Keyboard Creativity Summit at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. Summertime is a great time to visit Toronto, and this event is really a great one! See you in Montana in November, Wendy!
