May Song by Diane Hidy is a spirited adventure in compound meter. The A section is energetic and the B section features simple hemiola that increase the intensity and drama of the piece.
What level is May Song?
May Song is late elementary level. The piece is in D minor with only one added sharp at the end (ending in D Major). There are no key signatures. Syncopated pedaling is included in the B section. Root position chords are a feature in the right hand. The LH plays various intervals in the B section up to a 7th. The smallest note value is the eighth note.
