In the Nick of Time is a fast and lively late elementary piano solo where every phrase contains such energy it sounds like it’s played in the nick of time! Fun motives, each with staccato endings convey a feeling of urgency and a galloping B section that fits perfectly under the hands will be impressive to audiences and motivating to students.
What level is In the Nick of Time?
In the Nick of Time is a late elementary solo in E Lydian mode – a major scale with raised fourth degree. All accidentals are notated in the music so that there are no key signatures. Only two measures are pedaled in the B section. The smallest note value is an eighth note.
This piece stays mostly in the middle of the piano, but the tempo and motives make it impressive! Fingering, articulations and all dynamics are notated precisely, making this a perfect teaching piece for late elementary students.
Bonus recording included!
In the Nick of Time comes with a bonus mp3 recording performed by Wendy Stevens. You are permitted to send this example performance track to your students to help them learn the piece.
Plus, a QR code is included on the first page of the PDF (not pictured in the sample) so students can scan the code and it will take them directly to the performance recording of the piece. This can help them be inspired and learn the piece even more effectively without you having to send the mp3 to them!
