Getaway is the last piece in the All Cooped Up Spy Collection featuring the now famous chicken team racing away from their covert mission! Getaway is a fast and furious ride that will wow listeners and motivate your students. Quick but patterned motives make this quite manageable for early intermediate students.
What Level is Getaway?
Getaway is early intermediate level. The piece features frequent switches between 6/8 and 2/4 meter, but the steady eighth note makes this quite simple rhythmically. The smallest value is the eighth note. There are a few places to pedal in Getaway and these are clearly marked. The piece is carefully fingered and marked to help your student be successful and know just what to do.

I had a 7-year-old pupil learn this piece as soon as I got it. When I played it for him, he said it was “really cool”. He loved having the chance to play a piece that was supposed to be really fast!
The Master It Faster pages helped to break down the basic elements of the piece, which I found very useful.
The patterns in the piece, using 5ths, are easy to follow and memorize. Because of the simplicity of the patterns, most of which are chromatic, Getaway sounds much harder than it really is, which is always the better way round for pupils! A winner!

These pieces are fantastic! Thank you, Diane for the Master it Faster pages which my students and I love. One young teen who loves to play Getaway fast said, “I couldn’t have learned this piece without those pages.”

My teen boys love this Spy Series! Especially Getaway which everyone is attempting to play as fast as possible! 😆
