This bundle of Black Key Short Sheets® includes three sets of black key pieces. Each of these sets contain 3 one-page solos for students who are reading by finger number on the black keys. The sets included are:
These pieces and other Short Sheets® are designed to be easier to teach and easier to learn. They can be especially useful for summer lessons, online lessons (since longer pieces are more difficult to teach), busy students, students who need more time learning a particular concept and students who need to review. In addition, it is always helpful to have students read more music even at an easier level to help them learn to how to sight read more effectively. These Summer Fun black key Short Sheets® are also effective when young students need “special” music for recitals and festivals that are outside their lesson books.
What level is this bundle of Black Key Short Sheets®?
This bundle has pieces only in the early elementary level. The smallest rhythm value is the quarter note and quarter rest. The pieces are predominantly on the black keys, though two sets use an occasional white key that falls naturally falls between the black keys. All pieces are carefully edited to be solid piano pedagogy material.

I gave several of these short sheets to two of my students last week – they both really enjoyed them!
They were very easy for the older one (great sight-reading practice!) so he learnt 6 in one week!
The younger students was just learning ‘Dizzying Ride’ – the following week she played it, then transposed it down a semitone/half note to play it on the white keys instead! So much fun!

I like the short sheets because they are short. We can often work at the entire song during the lesson-such fun. The titles are great. They have been pupil savers during this time of screen fatigue.
Because the songs are all at almost the same level…..I can give the student “the set” and they can pick which one to play first. I love being able to give a choice! It’s so interesting to hear how they arrive at their choice—sometimes it’s the title; sometimes it’s a musical element on the page; sometimes it’s a glissando. And the…we’re off!

I find the “Short Sheets” GREAT sight-reading builders. There is so much to note on each page, and I insist that the students read it all – expression, clapping rhythm and counting aloud when playing, phrasing, patterns, keys…..every aspect of the piece so that they form the habit of realizing that they must do MORE than just correct notes and hopefully rhythm in order to gain the ability to truly be a good sightreader!!!!. They love the pieces!
