Do you believe in retroactive inspiration? Where you are inspired to write a piece but don’t really know what it’s about yet? That’s what happened with this piece. I wrote it a year ago and called it “A Sacred Space” though I didn’t know exactly why. I discovered, a year later, that I wrote it to accompany the ComposeCreate® movie [pause the video below before you watch] about how sacred the moments are when we really connect with our children.
A Sacred Space is an early intermediate piano solo that helps capture the feeling of special moments in your life. You know, those moments when you can imagine beautiful music playing in the background? That’s what A Sacred Space is for.
It’s already been used by a number of teachers and pianists for church, recitals, special moments, and memorial services. There’s just something about it that can’t be explained with words.
I’ve never played a piece myself at my studio recital, but after hearing this one, it might just have to be MY piece to play this year and not be assigned to a student. It’s beautiful! Keep writing!
