I gave one of the “Fun Foods” short sheets to a fifth grade boy who continually second guessed himself and found it impossible to play even the shortest sight reading example through without stopping. He came back after two weeks, played the piece through with NO pauses! It’s fits easily under the hands, has easy-to-play patterns but also has a nice melody, all of which makes it VERY playable. I like the short sheets because they are short. We can often work at the entire song during the lesson-such fun. The titles are great. They have been pupil savers during this time of screen fatigue.
Because the songs are all at almost the same level…..I can give the student “the set” and they can pick which one to play first. I love being able to give a choice! It’s so interesting to hear how they arrive at their choice—sometimes it’s the title; sometimes it’s a musical element on the page; sometimes it’s a glissando. And the…we’re off!
