This beautiful rendition of Silent Night is a simple, yet thoughtful and mature piece that would be the perfect ending piece for a holiday recital. There are elements that are refreshing enough to keep the audience attentive, but it maintains the tenderness and depth of the typical tune we all know.
If you have a student who enjoys playing with emotion and expression (or maybe one who needs an opportunity to develop more emotive playing), this is a piece they’ll love learning, and you’ll enjoy teaching and listening.
What level is Silent Night?
While dotted rhythms can still be a challenge for late elementary students, the tune is recognizable enough that students should know how to play the rhythms correctly even if they still typically struggle with those rhythms. This piece sounds mature, and students will look mature playing it thanks to shifting registers and many hand crossovers.
There is no key signature written in, but accidentals are written throughout the piece. The smallest note value is an eighth note. This piece fits well under small hands, and while it doesn’t stay in a five note position for the entirety of the song, the stretches aren’t difficult and are written in with careful fingerings.
There is pedaling throughout Silent Night. While the pedal markings are written in, the sections that require crossovers have the sustain pedal being held down the entire time so that students can focus on fingerings and proper technique, rather than pedaling.
Who will enjoy Silent Night?
Student and pianists of all ages will enjoy this mature arrangement of Silent Night. It begins simply and develops into a very full sound, helping even adult pianists to be expressive.

I am loving the arrangement of Silent Night and my students have really enjoyed it too. Its a beautiful arrangement!
Amanda Maskell –
A lovely arrangement, and a great option to give newer students a chance to play a song everyone knows, but with a bit of extra interest

I went to look for my Silent Night reference copy yesterday afternoon, and and realized that I had given it to a student and not reprinted one – AGAIN! I’m not sure how many I’ve printed now, but they were all gone. We just had a fall recital, so I have no worries about sharing this lovely arrangement with multiple students this season. My students are loving it, and I love it, too. Silent Night the carol is a favorite of many, but Wendy’s treatment of it (at this level) kicks it up to a higher tier, and I appreciate it so much! (Meanwhile, other arrangements languish in my files…) Get this one!

Wendy’s improvisational arrangement of Silent Night is a winner!! I have given it to several students, some who are over the age of 18! 😉 One of my adult beginners did not think she would be capable of playing it, but she has learned it and is enjoying it and is very proud of herself! She is so blessed to be able to play something so lovely in her early months of piano playing! Thank you, Wendy!

This ‘quick read’ piece for my Intermediate student was so delightful for her. I colour coded each pattern for my elementary students as their ‘challenge piece’. They fell in love with patterns they didn’t think they could play. This is a porteous piece I highly recommend for your studio!

I gave this piece to a younger student and told her it would be a challenge. She amazed me and in this process learned to navigate through arpeggios. She sounds delightful.

I invited a student who quit piano to come back and learn some seasonal music. This piece was my lure, and she loves it. I’m hopeful that beautiful pieces like this will help me to retain students. It’s easy for her to learn, and sounds more advanced than it it.

Perfectly lovely, and a favorite among my students.

As soon as I heard the recording of this arrangement I knew it was perfect for my adult Recreational Music Making class I teach for the park district. The class members all loved it as well and we had fun learning it together. I have also given it to some of my young private students as well. They really take to the lovely cross hand patterns which make this arrangement sound more advanced.

This arrangement of “Silent Night” has been an absolute favorite!!! I absolutely love it, and the arpeggios make it sound much fancier and more advanced than it is. It’s a great piece for older beginners!

I had a teenage boy who learned O Holy Night and Silent night and enjoyed it. I especially liked the arpeggios on the last page which were beautiful.

I gave this piece to one of my active, hard to motivate middle school boys and he LOVED it. His parents said that he came right home and worked out the beautiful interlude. He caught the vision right away and was able to play expressively. It came together quickly and he played it for his church service within a month of learning it. This piece is something that sounds harder than it is and is satisfying to play not only for late elementary but for higher levels, also.
This is a winner!

This beautiful arrangement of Silent Night is one of those great arrangements that sound much more difficult than it actually is. Nicely done!

When I was purchasing our Spring recital program template, I just couldn’t wait to get my hands on a beautiful Silent Night arrangement! So glad I went ahead and got it! I have just the student in mind 🙂

Another gorgeous Wendy Stevens arrangement! It is perfect for a student who wants something impressive to perform – with the added bonus of the piece being technically easier than it sounds and looks. This gives the teacher and performer opportunity to place additional emphasis on artistic elements to create a mature and elegant performance.

Beautiful arrangement of Silent Night! Thank you Wendy!
