On Christmas Morning is a tender, yet excited piece that evokes the joy and wonder of a day you’ve anticipated for weeks. As you play, you can secretly sing “On the morning of Christmas…” every time the main motive appears. The B section features chord inversions that sound like bells ringing in the joy of Christmas day before the return of the lovely theme!
What level is On Christmas Morning?
On Christmas Morning is a late elementary solo in common time. It is written in C Major. The eighth note is the smallest note value, and the main motives feature simple syncopations. The B section showcases parallel second inversion chords in the right hand. There is frequent use of ledger line notes for the right hand. The left hand plays three full seventh chords (i.e., with four notes in the chord), but the smallest interval is a 7th. On Christmas Morning contains easy-to-learn motives that fit easily under the hands, and the pedagogical fingerings and careful editing make hand position changes and cross-hand sections feel natural.
Bonus recording included and QR Code for students
On Christmas Morning comes with a bonus mp3 recording performed by Wendy Stevens. You are permitted to send this example performance track to your students to help them learn the piece.
Plus, a QR code is included on the first page of the PDF (not pictured in the sample) so students can scan the code and it will take them directly to the performance recording of the piece. This can help them be inspired and learn the piece even more effectively without you having to send the mp3 to them!
