Have you ever watched a timelapse of a flower opening in a nature documentary? The weeks-long process of a flower growing and blooming is shown in just a few seconds – and that’s exactly what Burgeoning Blossoms sounds like. There is a hopefulness to this solo, as if you’re waiting for the blossoms to fully open. But it’s not quite there yet. This piece is a reminder that there is beauty in the waiting, and students (especially older ones) will appreciate the emotional depth in this piece.
What level is Burgeoning Blooms?
Burgeoning Blooms is an elementary level piece. All notes are written on the staff, with helpful note names written in on newly introduced notes, or notes that haven’t been seen in several measures. These helpful note names help students learn the music quickly while still helping them read, giving them the best chance to have successful at-home practice.
The smallest note value is a quarter note. The piece is written in G major, but no key signature is indicated – instead, all accidentals are included. There is an option for students to hold the damper the entire time without a lift, which is indicated in the music. There is no intervallic jump greater than a third in either hand, and the hand position doesn’t change. There are multiple registers explored, but always with repeating patterns that students will already feel comfortable playing.
Bonus recording included!
Burgeoning Blooms comes with a bonus mp3 recording performed by Wendy Stevens. You are permitted to send this example performance track to your students to help them learn the piece.
More About the Entering Beautiful Places Series:
Burgeoning Blooms is a part of the Entering Beautiful Places series that gives older students (like teens and adults) who are just learning to read music or just learning to play piano beautiful, mature sounding music. This series features only Music Adults Love® and Music Teens Love® – beautiful, mature sounding music that doesn’t sound like it comes from a child’s method book.
Entering Beautiful Places always includes note names the first time a note is used. This is helpful for students just learning to read or needing to become more fluent in reading music on the staff. However, those “helps” are taken away and students then process these helps in a way that assists the in learning the notes on staff.
The collections in this series include:
- Finding Beautiful Places 1 – EE (Early Elementary) Music on the black keys; For those with no prior piano experience
- Finding Beautiful Places 2 – EE (Early Elementary) More of the same kind of music as above.
- Entering Beautiful Places 1 – E (Elementary) Music for those who are transitioning to the white keys or who need to review their white key note names
- Entering Beautiful Places 2 – E (Elementary) More music for those transitioning from black to white keys. Burgeoning Blooms is part of this set.
- In Beautiful Places – E (Elementary) Music for mid elementary students containing some across the bar line syncopation, but music that is still quite achievable and beautiful at this level
- Exploring Beautiful Places – LE (Late Elementary) Music for the late elementary pianist that contains eighth notes that are easy to feel and play.
What is the Studio License?
Burgeoning Blooms is delivered digitally (through your email receipt) and is studio licensed. This means that you can print and use this for any student that you directly teach for your entire lifetime of teaching.

Trudi –
I have a 15 year old young man who just began lessons. He loves this piece! This sounds so mature, and yet is perfect for one who is just beginning to gain concepts of keyboard geography. Thank you, Wendy, for pieces such as this that appeal to older beginners.
Debra Behrens –
My 50 year old student is really enjoying this piece, and I’m encouraging her to memorize it. She has played quite a few of Wendy’s pieces, and most are a hit!
Jessica Giuffrida –
This song is beautiful, and my older students enjoy playing it…one of them even chose it for her first recital piece. The cover art is beautiful too!
