Nuts, Nuts, Nuts is an early elementary Rote and Reading® piano solo with teacher duet. This Rote and Reading® piece has three verses that help students get used to play an easy pattern with only one little challenge of crossing their LH over the RH.

The story of Nuts, Nuts, Nuts

This piece was inspired by that scene in the move Up where the dogs are barking and angry and really focused on scaring the character, but then they see squirrels in the corner of their eye and they yell, “Squirrel!” and because extremely distracted.

So this piece tells the store of a little squirrel name Merle who is friendly, but very scatterbrained and distractible. He’s having a lovely conversation with you when suddenly he thinks he sees and yells, “Nuts! Nuts! Nuts!”

Each verse has Merle telling you a little more about himself and still getting distracted at the end of each verse.

Comes with bonus mp3s!

Sometimes students have a hard time remembering how a Rote and Reading® piece goes when they get home. So, this purchase comes with 2 mp3 files that you can send so that they can listen during the week. One recording is slow and the other recording is up to tempo.

How to teach that hand crossover

Don’t fret if your student takes too much time to cross their hand over. That’s to be expected because their RH has to play 2 Es. Just let them explore what it feels like to cross over first. Later, you can see if they can cross over “in time” but again, don’t fret if they take too much time. Just slow your duet down to wait for them. There’s plenty of other places in the piece where you can focus on playing with a steady beat. We don’t want them to panic or get anxious when they get to the “Nuts, Nuts, Nuts” part.

The 3rd and final piece in the new Woodland Fun Rote and Reading® Series

Woodland Fun includes Mister Bo Beaver, Lookin' Sharp and Nuts, Nuts, Nuts - By Wendy Stevens

Nuts, Nuts, Nuts is the final piece in a series of pieces about woodland creatures. Each of these pieces is a Rote and Reading® piece and can be taught by rote, reading, or both. In addition, each piece comes with a fun teacher duet. The pieces are designed to help young and beginning students get to know the piano keyboard.

As always, if you buy all the pieces separately and want the bonus cover, just send me an email. I can get you the special bonus cover for the Woodland Fun series. But if you haven’t purchased any of this series yet, the Woodland Fun bundle is definitely the way to go. The bundle is discounted and you get all the individual covers, plus the bonus.

Want to know more about Rote and Reading® teaching?

For a long time, the concept of teaching by rote was scary in piano pedagogy. But teachers now are realizing that when you combine both reading and rote, you are strengthening their reading and aural skills. Teaching the child in this way is more natural to their learning process. In addition, the rote pieces (which sound bigger and more mature) will motivate and excite your student while they are having to play more elementary sounding pieces because of their low reading ability.

In the same way that kids learn to speak before they learn to read, it is more natural for a student to learn to play before they learn to read notes on a page. 1. Julie

Such a fun piece for brand new beginners! It gives a great experience using the whole keyboard, like so many of Wendy’s pieces. All of my beginning to elementary students have at least one of Wendy’s fun compositions it their binders!

Thanks for such fantastic pieces to get students loving the piano!

  2. Mona

Each fall my students do a duet recital. Most of them play with another student. But my 4 little beginners did Rote and Reading Pieces this year, and I played with them. Mister Bo Beaver; Nuts, Nuts, Nuts; Lookin’ Sharp and Cluck, Cluck, Moo. Each of them had their piece memorized in just a couple weeks, and they loved playing them so much that their parents were glad when recital was over (not that they stopped playing those beloved pieces even then.)
I honestly believe that this piece converted a somewhat-less-than-eager practicer into an excited-to-be-at-the-piano practicer! Thanks, Wendy!

I give this piece 5 stars!
