In Miller’s Meadow speaks of sunshine, inspiring clouds, breathtaking wildflowers, cool green grass and peace. It’s an easy solo with very little hands together playing (only at the end). It’s just right for the older beginner, teens, adults, or any students who love beautiful music.
Features of In Miller’s Meadow
In Miller’s Meadow is in C position and features only steps and 5ths. It falls easily under the hands. The damper pedal is used throughout the piece, but only needs to be changed in one measure.

Who will enjoy In Miller’s Meadow
Any age of student with an appreciation for beautiful music will love this piece. But adults and melancholy teens and students will especially enjoy it.
Teaching Tip
Measures 9-24 look at little more daunting on the page than the easy measures 1-8. This is only because of the ties and the way it has to be notated. To make it much easier, just show the student how there is always a note playing on every beat (except at the end of the phrase). The student just needs to play note after note and not worry about the ties and longer note values (except at the ends of phrases where there are half notes).

This piece is a real winner. I have it going with 4 different people, 3 adults and a teenager, and everyone loves it. It is such a nice balance between easy and interesting and also sounds terrific. The comments are “Awesome!” “ beautiful”, “fun”, “surprising” and others in that vein.

Three of my older beginning students are learning this piece. They love it! Sometimes it’s a challenge to find easy music for the early teen. This fits the bill!
Phyllis Bowers –
My college age student really likes this piece!

My student started “In Miller’s Meadow” today and instantly loved it. She’s been using all the stalling techniques in her virtual lessons, including being unable to find her books. I had been keeping these pieces in mind for awhile and thought now would be the perfect time to give her something new to play that I know she can find. 😁 The artwork on the covers are beautiful!

Utterly captivating. That something this beautiful could be so accessible for beginner piano students is fantastic. My father is one of my piano students and I knew he would love it. My little sister-in-law (12 years old) has had several years of lessons. I threw this her way as well just for fun and she came back the next week with a gorgeous, expressive piece under her fingers. One of my students will be performing this in our August recital.
