How to play Fishy Flashcards

You can use Fishy Flashcards as simple fish music flashcards by showing the student the card and asking them to say the appropriate answer. But it’s much more fun when you use these Fishy Flashcards as much more than just fish music flashcards. Here’s what you need to make a great fishing game:

  • Fishy Flashcards
  • A fishing pole (If you don’t have one, you can make one with a stick/yardstick, string and a magnet
  • Paper clips

Place a paper clip on the mouth of each fish. Lay the fish face down on the floor and ask the student to “fish” for one of them. When the student pulls up one (or more) cards, they can answer the question.

Students can earn points for their team (or keep the fish music flashcard) by correctly identifying the flashcards. Young students love this great carnival game! You can also use the Fishy Music Flashcards to hold up and review concepts with piano and music students.

I think my students enjoyed the flashcards. I made the magnetic fishing pole and used a small pool for my fishing pond. It was a fun way to review or learn the musical concepts.

  2. Cheryl

My students love playing this!!! It is a fair bit of work to print, cut, laminate all the cards at once, but now that it is done, I’m set for the year!

  3. Amy Riggs

My kids have loved this game! I love that it covers a broad spectrum of concepts. It’s great for reviewing and finding those concepts that they may have missed or forgotten along the way. It did take some time to cut and laminate them all, but well worth the effort!

  4. Lisa Shacklock

Thanks so much for putting together this resource! I love that there is a variety of theory aspects involved – note values, dynamics, note names etc. I’m looking forward to the term holidays when I can laminate them ready to use next term! Thanks again!
