Pre-packaged Summer Camps

Over the last few weeks, I have had a number of teachers ask me if there are summer camp plans and materials available for sale. I know that there are a number out there, but I can’t always remember where they are. So if you have a pre-packaged summer camp for sale, here’s your chance to tell us about it!

In the comments below, please tell us a little bit about your camp, what is included in the package, how much it costs, and the exact URL where we can find it. I’ll make sure that teachers are directed to this post to see what you’ve written.

I can’t wait to read about all that is available. Please spread the word so that everyone may submit!

  1. There are a couple of summer piano camp packages available in the Music Matters Blog store: http://musicmattersblog.com/store/. One is a general music camp; the other one is a Pre-Piano camp designed for young students as an introduction to music and the piano. I’m planning to add some new ones in the near future as well!

  2. Are We There Yet? A Musical Journey Around the Globe® (www.Keys to Imagination.com) is a unique multimedia, interdisciplinary program to teach students about world music, instruments, culture, people, and geography through colorful slides, text, photos, videos, music, crafts, games and puzzles. Designed to be used with a projector or TV in group lessons or summer camp, or computer station for independent lab, this curriculum is completely done for you! Simply read the slides to students, click on related sound clips and videos, and complete activities as directed.

Bring a world music expert, Dr. Deborah Brener, into your classroom or studio!
Easy for music or non-music teachers to use; no experience in world music needed.
Save time planning and preparing lessons! The research, music, text, photos, videos, crafts, games, and puzzles are already done for you and aligned with the national standards. Very little preparation time needed.
Customize classes or a student’s lab session by choosing slides and activities to fit your schedule. We recommend a minimum of 3-4 hours of class time per country.

  3. West Music (westmusic.com) has a lot of good resources, as well as Music K8 (www.musick8.com). I like to piece together my own from different sources!

  4. We at TCW (Three Cranky Women) have produced tons of fun games that work wonders in summer group classes as well as all year long! 5. There are two camps currently available in the Notable Music Studio store (http://www.sherylwelles.blogspot.com/p/online-store_10.html)

RoadTrip USA! is a week long, 15-hour camp that celebrates the diverse music and composers of the United States. Each day campers “travel” throughout America discovering various styles of music, listening to the music of gifted composers and learning/reviewing music fundamentals. RoadTrip USA! can be run for a full week or can be broken up into 5 separate classes. This packet includes complete daily schedules, theme ideas, detailed plans for supplies, links to resources, pictures, and loads of games and activities to make your road trip a camp to remember!

Meet the Composers! provides a wonderful opportunity to introduce elementry students who may have minimal or no musical knowledge to some amazing composers and the art of composing! Designed to be taught in 4-one and a half hour classes, these plans provide the complete format to not only introduce students to some amazing composers, but also to give them the opportunity to create their own compositions through a few basic composing techniques.

Additional details can be found at the studio blog – http://www.sherylwelles.blogspot.com

  6. There are a couple of camps available in my shop at http://ColorInMyPiano.com/shop/. The first one is a composing camp called, “So, You Want To Be A Composer?” The downloadable pdf contains complete lesson plans, a student workbook, and a variety of worksheets and composing activities to be completed over a 4-day camp that meets 2 hours each. The cost is $40.

The second camp idea is a music history camp, using my curriculum called “The Great Composers & Their Music.” This flexible curriculum is modeled after “lapbooking,” a method of studying a topic that is frequently used by homeschoolers. It’s a wonderfully creative and interactive way to learn about a topic such as music history! Check out the photos on my website to learn more. This curriculum is perfect for camps: I recommend studying a different composer each day, as well as a different time period of music history each day. The downloadable curriculum for each composer can be purchased individually for $10 each.

I also have a free lesson plan on my website for doing a “Musical Olympics” outdoor camp. It can be found on my website under Printables > Lesson Plans.

Thanks for organizing this post, Wendy!

  7. At Music Educators’ Marketplace we have four fully-planned camps available that have been created by Bonnie Slaughter, NCTM. Volume 1 is Bach, Beethoven, and Joplin camp with no prior musical instruction required and includes music appreciation, composition, and rhythm activities with crafts. Volume 2 is a Christmas Camp with traditions, origins of carols, etc. Volume 3 is Patriotic Camp that features a human circle of 5ths, body beat rhythm ensembles and crafts. Volume 4 is Accompanying/Conducting/Improvisation with materials that can be adapted for many levels and based on folk songs. These camps are recommended for up to 12 students of mixed ages and four sessions.

  8. We also have posted ideas for creating and organizing your own camp on a music history theme. It is free at Music Educators’ Marketplace.
