New Inspirational Recital Music for the Teacher

Rustle of Inspiration - late intermediate to advancing inspirational recital music piano solo by Wendy Stevens

I’m so happy to unveil some new inspirational recital music that’s dear to my heart. It’s a beautiful piece that would be perfect for you or your advancing students to play at your spring recital. There’s so much spring in its step and thrill in its energy.

I suppose you might say that it’s on a completely different side of the emotional spectrum than The Shadow Passes which was also from my heart. But this piece is about exhilaration. It’s about the excitement that comes from inspiration. It’s about how inspiration comes to us.

How does inspiration come?

I think inspiration rarely happens in a vacuum. We all long to be inspired and to be able to compose or create as if the notes are just spilling from our pencils like we believe was true of Mozart and Beethoven. But rarely does that happen.

Instead, I’ve found that inspiration only shows up when I do. I have to do the hard work before me before it ever makes even a peep. And I’ve discovered that it rarely speaks clearly or loudly. Instead, it’s like a faint rustling behind me. Sometimes I think I miss it completely and yet it is often there. Waiting patiently. And when I see it, hear it, or sense it, it runs alongside me.

Rarely does inspiration tell me exactly what to compose, but what it does give me is that feeling of exhilaration that I’m onto something. That something good is happening.

That it’s an honor to be a part of that beauty.

So what does the piece mean?

Rustle of Inspiration is a musical story about how inspiration meets us. It is about the difficult creative journey of being quiet, of listening, of not rushing the process, and of waiting.

Inspiration rustles.

And then, it begins to run alongside us and gives us that exhilarating feeling that we are a part of something beautiful!
