Christmas Carol Contest for Composers

I received this information about the sixteenth Christmas Carol contest and was thrilled that this years’ instrumentation is SATB plus piano! The deadline to enter the contest is August 2.

This year marks the sixteenth year of the Welcome Christmas Carol Contest, as VocalEssence and the American Composers Forum provide composers with the opportunity to compose a modern-day carol.

This year’s contest requires writing a carol for SATB chorus accompanied by piano.

The two winners will each receive a prize of $1,000, and the winning carols will be premiered at the December 7, 8, 13, 14  and 15, 2013. Welcome Christmas concerts featuring Philip Brunelle conducting the VocalEssence Chorus & Ensemble Singers with pianist Dan Chouinard. The performances will be recorded for national broadcast in 2014 via American Public Media.

Complete information about the VocalEssence / American Composers Forum Welcome Christmas Carol Contest, including complete contest guidelines, submission requirements, and information on the selection process is available at ACF’s website or at VocalEssence’s website .

Applications must be postmarked on or before August 2, 2013.  Faxes will not be accepted.  Composers will be notified by early October 2013.

Please contact Craig Carnahan if you have questions or need additional information.

Happy Christmas Creating!
