A Cheese Piece – Inspired by Henry

The Cheese Disease piano solo by Wendy Stevens inspired by Henry | ComposeCreate.com

Today, I’m releasing more fun food music! Tasty Tunes and Snack Time have been super popular with teachers and students and I think a cheese piece inspired by Henry will be loved by many as well.

But first, I want to tell you what inspired it.

Henry’s Inspiration

In November of last year, I got an email from a piano parent in Australia who told me her son was playing Savannah Stalk and loving it. We started emailing back and forth and she told me so much about Henry that inspired me. All children have beauty that is unique to them, but I was really captured by Henry’s extremely energetic personality and zest for life even with challenges. As I got to know him better through our email conversations, he inspired me beyond measure. Henry made me laugh, cry, and sob in joy so many times.

Henry has a Youtube channel (and I know he would be thrilled and very encouraged if you subscribed!) where he posts videos and some of them are amazingly funny. I really like his “piano stereotypes.” It makes me laugh every time and is a beautiful testament to how create kids are and how we so easily forget how to connect with their world!

Because of his inspiration, Henry actually helped me to come out of a heavy fog I had been experiencing with composing where I just wasn’t feeling energized. Writing The Cheese Disease for Henry gave my heart so much joy. [Henry’s absolutely favorite food is cheese!] I’m so grateful to him and his mother and fabulous teacher for inviting me into their lives.

The Power of What You Do

A Cheese Piece - Inspired by Henry | Music Kids Love by Wendy StevensBut Henry and his devoted mother were not the only ones that are inspiring in this story. Henry’s teacher has also inspired me. She is so in tune with the individual needs of each of her students and she has a flourishing studio because of it. I love how passionate she is about finding music that is just right for Henry to play successfully. She goes the extra mile to bring beauty and encouragement to each of her students’ lives. What a powerful gift that is to her students and I’m sure she also feels the unique pleasure of giving.

Henry, his mother, and his teacher continue to inspire me. And I want their story to inspire you as well.

Just think: You are equipping students with a skill that will give voice to their emotions and express themselves in unique ways. You are equipping very unique persons that each have some beauty to give to the world and you are giving them a powerful way to express that beauty. You are giving them a skill that helps them feel special.

You are teaching your students about goodness and beauty in a world filled with hate and evil.

Isn’t that the best part of being a teacher?

Not Everyone Likes Cheese of Course…

Even if you don’t have students that like cheese and aren’t the least bit interested in this piece, I’d love for you to be inspired by Henry. So, I’ll include the video about The Cheese Disease below and also Henry’s video that he made once he had learned The Cheese Disease:

Wendy, this is a delightful song! I have the Cheese Disease too. 😉 I subscribed to Henry’s YouTube channel, and I think my students will find some great inspiration there. Thank you! And good job, Henry, helping Miss Wendy out of a slump!
