New Reading and Rote Piece – Savannah Stalk

Do your students want BIG sounds that impress people but also love the beauty of the melancholy? Do you want to get your students ALL over the keyboard in a way that doesn’t scare them? Do you want to develop beautiful technique, but find that your students are too bogged down in learning note names and rhythm that they can’t properly focus on big technique?

Savannah Stalk - Elementary rote piano piece by Wendy Stevens

Enter Rote Piece: Savannah Stalk

The newest rote piece in the African Adventure Reading and Rote series is Savannah Stalk! This reading and rote piece has all the elements that both kids and adults love:

  • A big, grand opening
  • A beautiful, touching B section
  • Comfort at the keys…no moments of panic then they have to find a new “position!” All the positions are the same, they just move to different registers
  • A classy, distinguished cover (yes, covers always come with ComposeCreate digital music!)

Also check out the first piece in the African Adventure Rote and Reading® Series called “African Safari.”

Wendy, I just bought and downloaded your “Savanna Stalk” yesterday and already had the opportunity to teach it to one of my young students. I had planned to introduce one or two elements of the song in his lesson today, but as it happens, he forgot to bring his books. I said, “No problem, I have an exciting new piece we’re going to learn”! I did not reveal the title of the piece right away, and so we had an interesting conversation about the sounds we were creating at the keyboard, which included some thinking about what kind of animal they might represent. Once he learned and could play the entire piece, I printed it out for him with the title page. He was very surprised and excited to see how “difficult” the music looked! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a student that impressed with himself. Thank you for helping to make this lesson fabulous, and helping to make my student excited and proud!

  2. Wow, Patty! That makes my day! Thank you so much for telling me this. I”m soooooo glad he liked it and that it made him impressed with himself. Such a great way (and the best way) to motivate students!

    Thanks so much for sharing!!!!!

  3. This has become a studio hit for me and is particularly enjoyed by young boys who enjoy the big sound and are working hard to add drama into their playing. It will feature in both my year end recitals with performances which will be both impressive and captivating for the audiences – lots of smiles all round! Thank you Wendy!
